Henry Sorto Santamaria
Program Assistant (D.C.)

Henry graduated from the University of Maryland College Park with a degree in Communications, focusing on Political Communication and Public Advocacy. As a DMV native and having grown up in Chillum, Maryland, Henry experienced first-hand the importance of community solidarity and the need for resource allocation in building successful communities that serve beneficial roles to a greater population. With his fervor for social justice and solutions oriented thinking, Henry has been able to apply his lived experience into the work he does both on and off the clock. When Henry is not working, you can find him likely dancing with friends, reading, and or riding around the city on his bike.

Quote:

“Let no one mistake us for the fruit of violence — but that violence, having passed through the fruit, failed to spoil it.” — Ocean Vuong

Why I chose this quote:

I chose this quote for the two main reasons being Ocean Vuong is an incredibly talented writer who's written about the queer immigrant experience which means a lot to me, and that the quote itself expresses the absolute importance of human resilience.
