Back to School in A BIG Way

The back to school season is always a busy time – figuring out the bus schedule, buying meal plans, and fighting the crowd at Target or Walmart for the Back-to-School Supply List.  At Generation Hope, Back to School time was busier than ever because we welcomed the first class of Generation Hope Scholars into our program.

Our Scholar/Sponsor Training and “Meet & Greet” Luncheon took place on Saturday, August 27th in Washington, D.C., and for many of our Scholars, their college classes had already begun.  Even though it was an extremely busy time for them (oh, and by the way, Hurricane Irene was also slated to hit the DC area later on that evening!), the training was a required and important part of our program – it provides direction and information on how to get the most out of mentoring relationships.  The “Meet & Greet” Luncheon was also vitally important because it allowed Scholars and Sponsors to meet each other for the first time.

Months of planning and preparation went into the event, which took place at the Healthy Babies Project Facility in Northeast.

From creating the mentor/Mentee training manual, to all of the tiny decor details, it was an amazing feeling to see the final product and know that this event exhibited how highly we value our program participants," said Director of Operations & Programming, Kendria Reynoso.  "We walked away knowing that we had accomplished what we set out to do."

Back to School at Generation Hope also means sending payments to each of the Scholars’ colleges to go toward the costs of their educational expenses.  A busy time for our Finance Department!

We hope Back to School was busy but smooth for you and yours!
